Helmsley Heated Open Air Swimming Pool is operated under by Registered Charity
(Helmsley Recreation Ground Reg. No.523358) the Trustees for which are Helmsley Town
Council. It receives financial support from Ryedale District Council through a Service
Level Agreement. The Swimming Pool Committee is grateful to both the organisations
for their support without which the facility would not open.

funding for this programme has been withdrawn not by Ryedale but by central government. As with the other Pools in Ryedale therefore we are
no longer able to offer the over 60's Free Swimming this year. Sorry.
Helmsley Pool was scheduled to undergo a major refurbishment this summer which would have meant the closure of the Pool for the 2010 season. Our funding bid for £3.6m for the whole of the sports site on Baxtons Lane including the Pool came second in the UK and consequently no refurbishment has taken place. It was touch and go whether the Pool would open this year but we decided to try.
Why are we mentioning this?
Well although the water quality is very good to excellent and temperature is a pretty constant at 28 C and the staff trained and polite the rest of the facility is in a run down condition. We offer no shower facilities, it will cost approximately £12K to improve our water supply to provide showers, and the changing rooms whilst clean are very tired.
So please bear all the above in mind before making plans to visit us. We love our Pool and are working hard to keep it and improve it but like everything today it takes time.
